I am thrilled to have installation work in a group show celebrating the wonder of artist’s books this Spring. Open Sesame: The Magic of Artist’s Books Revealed will be on display at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art between March 1 – June 9, 2019. Artist’s reception is on Saturday, March 9 from 6:30 – 9 PM. It would mean the world to me to have you see the show. I will be displaying 25 magnolia leaves with Kathleen Flowers’ poem In These Five Remaining Days, After Hafez burned one line in each leaf and the two tall pin oak trees with twisted wire lines from This Hunger. Other events throughout the exhibition will be posted on the website.
I have the opportunity to exhibit Not So Fast in a group show spotlighting the artists who had Leland Iron Work Residencies in 2018. Not So Fast is also a poem by Kathleen Flowers that was displayed in Santa Cruz in my solo show for the breath of a poem in April/May 2018. I have changed the piece to include twisted wire text instead of a stenciled poem. During my residency at Leland Iron Works in February 2018, I twisted wire: 28 handwritten lines of poetry and created a wire basket to hold ceramic apples. I trimmed and manicured two pin oak trees. That piece, This Hunger will be at BIMA so I have altered Not So Fast to incorporate the wire to evoke that process and experience. The group show will have a reception on First Thursday, March 7 at PLACE located at 735 NW 18th Ave. Portland, OR 97209 (503) 334-2080. Hope you can make it!
I am honored that Global Inversion is a recent acquisition, purchased in October, 2018 under the direction of Grace Kook-Anderson, The Arlene and Harold Schnitzer curator of Northwest Art at the Portland Art Museum. It will be on view in the group show RUMINATION on the 4th floor in the Northwest wing thru April 2020. I received a partial grant to attend an In Cahoots 2-week residency in Petaluma, CA in early November 2019. I am super excited to work in this amazing print studio space with other artists in a gorgeous part of the country. I plan to work on etching and wood engraving for my next artist book project exploring Mt. Hood Wilderness.
My book AMAZONS’ edition of 28 copies and 3 artist proofs is SOLD OUT! A great way to start the NEW YEAR! I now need to move on my next artist book project.
We had some victories this November – 117 Women won elections across the U.S. 17 of the 27 seats gained by the Democrats were filled by women. Some knock outs are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York Democrat, District 14), Sharice Davids (Kansas Democrat, District 3), Deb Haaland (New Mexico Democrat District 1), Rashida Tlaib Michigan Democrat, District 13) and Ilhan Omar (Minnesota Democrat, District 5).
We have to continue to be vigilant. There are so many fights needing our attention: voter rights, keep families together, immigration reform, keep fossil fuel in the ground, increase alternative energy – shift toward 100% renewable, protect Mother Earth and all her inhabitants, restore public land, single payer healthcare, living wage, campaign finance reform and on and on.
Courage, love and continued resistance!!xo
